Royal Highland Show 2024
It was a lovely morning that welcomed visitors to this year’s Royal Highland Show. The weather did change slightly and thankfully it was not as hot as 2023, so much easier on both cattle and members. Highland Cattle are always a real spectacle for those who came to watch the day’s proceedings, and this year was no different with lots of people around the ring. Fifty-five quality cattle were forward for Stuart to cast his eye over and choose his prizewinners.

The Overall Champion of the day was the Female Champion, Claggorm 62nd of Glengarnock. This daughter of Iain Ruadh of Glenkinglass and out of Claggorm 45th of Glengarnock was bred by A and H Kirkpatrick, bought by Highland Cattle Services in February at the Highland Cattle Show and Sale, and shown by Angus MacGillivray.

Standing in reserve was the Male Champion, Cameron of Sguir Mhor. Cameron was Sired by Eoin Mhor 18th of Mottistone and out of Tanya 3rd of Mottistone. Bred by Willie MacLean and owned by Dexter and Carolyn Logan and Ewen Macmillain, shown by Dexter.

Reserve Female Champion was Magaida 4th of Earn, she is by Angus Ruadh of Western Croachy out of Magaida 1st of Earn. Owned and bred by Mrs Heather Corrigall and brought out and shown by Graeme and Rebecca Easton. She has been Champion at Angus and Aylth shows this year so far, with a lovely calf at foot by Maranello of Hellifield.
Reserve Male Champion was Innes 1st of Glenfinnan. He is by Alisdair 4th of Woodneuk out of Iona of Craigluscar Farm fold. Bred and owned by Andrew Polson and brought out and shown by Kirsty Neil.
Once again, Highland Cattle showed their class and quality in the Inter Breed competitions.
